Food systems

Strengthening agroecological food systems

Brief description of the project

The integration of agroecology into development projects is often based on a narrow definition of sustainability at the level of individual plots, without systemic change at the level of the food system. The project is running in three different areas in Senegal and aims to engage, connect and strengthen local food system actors to create the transition to sustainable, inclusive and dynamic food systems.

Project goals

  • Better inclusive governance structures make it easier to integrate agroecology and the fair, sustainable use of natural resources into local policy and practice.
  • Local production systems become more sustainable and productive when farmers and community members work together to implement and improve agroecological infrastructure and agricultural practices.
  • Greater cooperation between actors in the food system opens up new market opportunities for producers and processors and increases the variety and quantity of local agroecological products available on the market.
