Vocational training

Vocational training

Strengthening the vocational training of medical professionals

Brief description of the project

Vocational training in the health sector in Zambia faces persistent challenges such as the low number of health service providers who provide practical training, the lack of qualification of the teaching staff, and the inadequate infrastructure and resources of the training institutions.

The project sets new standards for the practical, clinical training of healthcare professionals by establishing interdisciplinary skills labs as the new standard in vocational training in the healthcare sector in Zambia. The improved training enables students to make a valuable contribution to patient care at the health centers much earlier in their training.

The innovative training model is supported by national and international research projects and is being expanded to a total of six locations in close cooperation with the Zambian authorities. The project is sustainable thanks to its integration into the Zambian healthcare system and the great interest and commitment of local stakeholders. The training centers and staff are already being financed locally during the project period.
