Food systems

Promotion of agroecological entrepreneurship

Brief description of the project

Rootical Tanzania is accelerating the transition to regenerative and inclusive food systems by building agroecological enterprises.

Using an innovative startup studio model, Rootical identifies key challenges in the food system and works with Tanzanian entrepreneurs to develop viable business solutions that can deliver impact at scale. Rootical addresses systemic problems such as land degradation, food insecurity and limited economic prospects for smallholder farmers.

Through a combination of training, business development and access to finance, Rootical supports Tanzanian entrepreneurs to develop business models that regenerate ecosystems, improve incomes and increase access to safe and healthy food.

Project goals

The aim is to accelerate Tanzania’s transition to agroecology by building economically viable, scalable and impact-oriented businesses that:

  • improve the income and livelihoods of farmers
  • Restore soils, ecosystems, biodiversity and water cycles
  • Increase access to safe and nutritious food
