Vocational training
Program to promote vocational training
Brief description of the project
Vocational training is a priority for the Cambodian government. The current labor market is characterized by offers for low-skilled workers. These low-wage sectors have contributed to the reduction of extreme poverty and remain important. The country is increasingly striving for economic development with more added value in the country and better jobs. Vocational education and training is an important factor in this change. However, this is still very weak, especially outside the economic centers.
Tourism is an important employer that employs many people in the provinces, especially women. The program works with hotels and restaurants to support hospitality workers to improve their skills and increase their incomes. Strong commitment from the private sector to upskilling its workforce is crucial.
The program works in close partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and the Ministry of Tourism to improve the vocational training system as a whole and the vocational training opportunities in the provinces.
The third phase of this major SDC program is co-financed by the LED with the aim of expanding the results of the previous phases and anchoring them sustainably in the vocational training system. Around 13,400 people will be reached.
