Vocational training
National training program for solar energy
Brief description of the project
Cambodia has big plans to increase the proportion of renewable energies in its energy mix – in particular by expanding the use of solar energy. However, in order to achieve this, the country needs appropriately trained specialists. However, there are currently not enough training opportunities in the field of solar technology. This project aims to change this by creating the basis for a national training program for solar technicians. International experts will help to develop a high-quality training program, which will then be adapted to the Cambodian context and offered by three major training institutions.
Once developed, the course will support the development of solar skills inside and outside Cambodia through the work of organizations such as WWF, Solaire Sans Frontières, Don Bosco and others. Non-technical people, such as farmers in rural areas, will also be able to better understand and apply solar technologies in their daily lives with learning materials specifically designed for them.
Project goals
Create a solid foundation for a national solar technician training program in Cambodia – and actually implement it – to pave the way for a wider use of solar energy in the country.
- Two Cambodian training institutions, Don Bosco and NTTI, are offering a high-quality solar training course, creating at least one national center of excellence for the provision of solar skills.
- A pool of solar apprentices ensures the development of a skilled workforce to expand and maintain solar energy systems in Cambodia in the long term.
- High-quality course content and learning materials on photovoltaic technologies, adapted to the training of rural laypersons, are available.
