Knowledge transfer via radio for smallholder families

Brief description of the project

The use of organic farming methods is a healthy, sustainable way for Tanzanian smallholder families to sustainably increase yields and income and improve their health and food security. However, both smallholder families and state institutions often lack the necessary know-how.

The project counteracts this by providing practical knowledge via radio and magazines. Through the information, smallholder families expand their knowledge and skills in organic farming and achieve better, sustainable yields. This in turn improves their economic, social and ecological livelihoods.

By linking and reinforcing valuable information via two different media channels (radio and magazine), over 5 million people can potentially benefit from the content distributed.

Project goals

  • Increased use of organic farming methods by 1.2 million smallholder farmers
  • Increasing awareness and knowledge of agroecology among the target groups
  • Reduced use of synthetic inputs by smallholder farmers
