Improving the climate resilience of agricultural communities

Brief description of the project

Smallholder farming families in northern Mozambique are among the poorest population groups in the country. They are under pressure from climate change, weak market systems and limited access to services. This is due to nutrient-poor soils, a lack of economic know-how and a lack of technical resources. The OLIMA WOKUMI project aims to improve the income of the population in this region. To this end, it strengthens the resilience of farming communities to climate change, promotes agroecological practices and improves access to supply chains for inputs and services.

Thanks to improved knowledge and access, the communities involved benefit from greater resilience and diversified incomes. At the same time, sustainable, climate-friendly agricultural practices are ensured, leading to improved livelihoods and food security.

Project goals

• Training farmers in climate-resilient production based on organic inputs.
• Training young people to strengthen local advisory systems and improve market access.
• Better access to meteorological information through partnerships with local and national weather service providers.
