Vocational training
Expansion of decentralized nursing training
Brief description of the project
The overarching goal of the project is to support the Zambian Ministry of Health in increasing the number of qualified nurses and midwives, thereby reducing the shortage of skilled workers in the nursing sector. This should improve the population’s access to high-quality healthcare, particularly in rural regions. At the same time, employment and income opportunities for young people and their families will be strengthened.
To achieve this goal, SolidarMed and the Ministry of Health are introducing the decentralized training model at seven additional training centres, thus establishing it nationwide in all provinces of Zambia.
The Nursing Council, the Ministry of Health and the provincial health authorities are being specifically strengthened in order to further develop the model independently and anchor it in the provinces.
Project goals
- Seven new training institutions have successfully introduced the decentralized training model for nurses and midwives.
- A total of ten so-called “lead colleges” are authorized to pass on the decentralized training model to other training institutions in their respective provinces
- Training institutions that implement the decentralized model increase both the quality of training and the number of successful graduates.
