Development of sustainable agricultural value chains
Brief description of the project
Namuli is not only the second highest mountain in Mozambique, but also a biodiversity hotspot, a regional water tower, a cultural sanctuary and a region with high potential for tourism. The high mountain forests of Namuli, which provide ecosystem services that are essential for the resilience of local communities, are threatened by deforestation for agricultural purposes. Nitidae is working with the communities of Namuli to reconcile the conservation of natural resources and local economic dynamism in this area through sustainable and fair agricultural value chains.
Project goals
- Agricultural processes responsible for deforestation are being transformed through the development of productive, sustainable and resilient production systems, which in turn are embedded in territorial dynamics.
- The Namuli communities steer the development and implementation of integrated management and development plans that balance environmental protection, agriculture and development.
Special features of the project
The partner organization Nitidae promotes a systemic, integrated approach at the territorial level based on a deep understanding of the landscape and agricultural dynamics. By mobilizing rural communities, public institutions and the private sector, economic dynamics are balanced with the preservation of functioning ecosystems through the development of fair, sustainable agricultural value chains.
