Foreign Minister emphasizes the importance of development cooperation
During her visit to the LED office in Schaan on 9 May, Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler praised LED’s commitment to partner countries. She focused on synergies and close cooperation between the Foreign Affairs Office (AAA) and LED within the framework of international humanitarian development cooperation (IHCD).

(Schaan, May 10) After a brief exchange with employees and the management of the LED, the Government Councillor met with the LED Foundation Board chaired by the new Chairman of the Foundation Board, Peter Beck. In the context of regular consultations, she reaffirmed her appreciation and support for the LED. She was able to gain a personal impression of the professionalism and effectiveness of the LED projects during her trip to Tanzania at the end of March together with the LED and during her stay in the Republic of Moldova. By promoting organic farming through the LED and its partners, Liechtenstein is contributing to food security in the East African country. In the former Soviet Republic of Moldova, on the other hand, young people are given significantly better prospects for the future through educational activities, thereby making an important contribution to the economic and social stability of their home country. Media in the partner countries have also reported extensively on the trips. This consolidates a sustainable partnership with these countries and increases the visibility of Liechtenstein’s contribution.

The war in Ukraine has drastically worsened the situation and future prospects in many priority countries. The Republic of Moldova, for example, has to cope not only with the immediate threat of the war spreading but also with the burden of Ukrainian refugees. Tanzania is struggling with an increasingly precarious food situation. To date, around 60% of wheat imports have been sourced from Russia and around 10% from Ukraine. The country is also struggling with higher fertilizer prices. LED projects are becoming increasingly important here, as they contribute to an increase in local food production and, by supporting agroecological methods in agriculture, make the use of expensive fertilizers and costly pesticides at least partially superfluous.
