The meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu, and the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, Brigitte Haas, on January 20, 2026 underlines the growing importance of cooperation between Liechtenstein and Moldova.
This political signal is particularly relevant for the Liechtenstein Development Service: The work of the LED in Moldova was expressly acknowledged, and education was named as a key area for a possible expansion of cooperation.
From 2007 to 2017, the LED implemented and financed projects at all levels of education, from early childhood education to vocational training. Since 2017, the portfolio has focused on vocational training. The aim of these projects is to strengthen access to education, improve the quality of training and give young people better career prospects.
The contribution of the LED was expressly emphasized in the discussion. At the same time, opportunities to further expand the project portfolio were examined. There was a clear common interest, particularly in the area of vocational and technical education. This form of training plays a decisive role in the economic development of the country, in the integration of young people into the labor market and in the development of sustainable structures.
This is an important sign for the LED. It confirms that the many years of work in Moldova are having an impact, are being recognized and are considered a relevant contribution to the country’s development. At the same time, the meeting opens up prospects for new projects and deeper partnerships.
The LED will continue to work with local partner organizations to strengthen educational opportunities, build professional skills and support sustainable development processes in the Republic of Moldova.
