Exchange strengthens cooperation

International development cooperation thrives on coordination, exchange and common goals. At the beginning of February, the Liechtenstein Development Service met with the Office for Foreign Affairs (AAA) for a joint IHCD exchange to discuss current developments and further strengthen cooperation.

The meeting focused on strategic priorities, ongoing programs and current challenges in Liechtenstein’s international humanitarian and development cooperation. The exchange enabled both institutions to present their areas of work in greater depth and to make interfaces visible.

The LED presented its 2023 to 2026 strategy and its focus areas of sustainable food systems and vocational training. Project managers provided insights into programs in sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia. It showed how agroecological approaches contribute to food security and how vocational training programs support young people entering the labor market.

For its part, the Office for Foreign Affairs presented current fields of activity. This includes, in particular, emergency and reconstruction aid, multilateral development cooperation and commitments in the area of refugee and migration aid. Reconstruction in Ukraine and international climate policy were also discussed.

In addition to specialist topics, the focus was also on issues relating to public relations work, joint events and future cooperation. The regular dialog between LED and AAA helps to identify developments at an early stage, exploit synergies and further develop Liechtenstein’s international cooperation effectively.

The exchange once again demonstrated the importance of close coordination between strategic management, operational project work and international networking. It forms an important basis for Liechtenstein to fulfill its international responsibilities in a coordinated and sustainable manner.
