How can development cooperation be financed and effectively organized in the future? The Liechtenstein Development Service, the Office of Foreign Affairs, and the Liechtenstein Bankers Association invite you to a joint public event on November 2, 2026, in the Vaduz City Hall. Two expert presentations will shed light on current issues surrounding the financing and benefits of international cooperation.
International cooperation is under increasing pressure to rethink its impact, financing, and political legitimacy. At the same time, the need for additional funding for sustainable development is growing. Public funds remain essential, but they are not sufficient on their own. The question of how development cooperation benefits donor countries themselves is also gaining importance.
How can private capital be mobilized?
Martin Ewald, founder of Scaled Development GmbH, has been working in the fields of private markets, impact investing, and fund structuring for about 20 years. In his presentation , “Making Impact Investable: How Blended Finance Mobilizes Private Capital on a Large Scale, ” he explains how private capital can be mobilized for impact-oriented investments.
What do donor countries gain from development cooperation?
Maximilian Michael, a researcher at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, offers a different perspective. His presentation , “Mutual Interests in Development Cooperation: A New Perspective on Development Cooperation,” examines the economic, geopolitical, and security policy implications of development cooperation for donor countries and explores the question of when the interests of donor and recipient countries overlap.
The two articles present different approaches to a key question: How can development cooperation be financed and structured in the future so that it has a lasting impact?
