On August 22, the LED visited the Swiss Tropical Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel. The aim of this meeting was to identify common interests and approaches for possible collaboration. The personal welcome by Swiss TPH Director Jürg Utzinger, the exciting presentations, the guided tour of the architecturally interesting building and the raising of the Liechtenstein flag – a first at the Tropical Institute – made this visit an unforgettable event.
During the presentations and discussions, “agricultural health” quickly emerged as the central point of contact, which roughly speaking is about “health research in agriculture”, a still young field of research. Both organizations contribute their specific expertise in this area and research the numerous interactions between agricultural practices, human health and various environmental influences from different perspectives.
