Working together for mangrove reforestation in Senegal
In the West African state of Senegal, the reforestation of mangrove forests is progressing steadily. CAREM, the local organization on site, is doing excellent work. LED project manager Cheikh Gueye and representatives of the Austrian partner organizations Horizont3000 and Welthaus Graz were recently able to see this for themselves.
In the mangrove swamps of the Saloum river delta on the Atlantic coast, people grow rice, fish and crustaceans live there, even oysters. These forests are thus the most important part of a unique and life-sustaining ecosystem and provide an important source of income and food for the local rural population, especially women.
