Energy transition - LED support for Cambodia's vocational training programme

The Cambodian government has ambitious plans for the expansion of renewable energies, greater energy efficiency and e-mobility.

Clean Energy Week is a major annual event in Cambodia where representatives from the government, business, research and civil society come together to discuss how the energy transition can be driven forward. The Clean Energy Week is organised by EnergyLab - the organisation is regarded as a think tank and a leading voice in the energy transition in Cambodia.

On 5 November, Clean Energy Week dedicated a separate event to the topic of education. The LED is actively involved in the dialogue on vocational training for the energy transition in Cambodia. Pius Frick, LED Country Coordinator in Cambodia, kicked off the event by outlining the fundamental challenges of how to train the skilled workers needed for the envisaged energy transition within the required timeframe.

In the subsequent panel discussion, the topic was examined from various perspectives. All panellists emphasised that a strong involvement of the private sector is crucial in order to create and implement a roadmap for the development of training capacities. To create such a roadmap, the LED has decided to support a platform project with EnergyLab, which was also briefly presented.
